We all are familiar with that famous advertising slogan from Nike —- JUST DO IT. This phrase is so simple yet so powerful in that it aptly applies to any goal you wish to accomplish.
For the recent past, I have been stuck in the gathering of information and resources and not DOING very much. Now, in 2010, I am heeding NIKE’S advice and moving on to the action phase with anticipation of reviewing my accomplishments by the end of the year.
Since we are still in the New Year’s resolution phase, I want to share with all of you information I have gathered along the way that may be helpful to some in various areas.
Weight Management
If you need some guidance on developing an individual eating plan check out – Institute of Eating Management and Relapse Prevention Center – at www.eatingmanagement.com
If you don’t have a lot of time to cook and want to buy healthy, fresh, meals with no artificial preservatives check out – Smart Meals, Inc. – at www.smartmeals.com
Getting Physical
I have a Bally’s Fitness and YMCA membership but with my trying to carve out time to write, I don’t have a lot of time to go consistently. Therefore, I workout at home. I have a small home gym (treadmill, elliptical and lifecycle) and I augment that with DVDs for other types of workout. Here is some valuable info for those who workout at home;

QUESTIONS:
How will you apply NIKE’S advice this year?
Laura says
I plan on applying Nike’s slogan but just sucking it up. If I dislike doing something, but I know it will help me in the long run, I need to just do it and stop complaining. I to am having issues with my weight. The sad thing is that I know what I have to do to change it. But like most people, I just do not wish to do the work. This year I’ve decided to just suck it up and not buy another piece of clothing until I can fit into the clothes I already own. Not to mention I cannot buy another purse until I have lost some weight and you all know how I love to buy a purse.

The truth is, we all know what to do to lose weight. But we can’t take it off and keep it off until we change the habits that put the weight on in the first place. Here is a practical tip for people like me who tend to overeat at social events: Stay away from the food table. Go in another room and find somebody there to chat with, so that the temptation is out of sight. This is lots easier if you’ve eaten some healthy food at home before going out. Ask yourself, Am I going to this party to enjoy the people, or to consume calories? And if the hostess comes around with her little tray of tidbits (100 calories each), just tell her that they’re gorgeous but you can’t eat another bite; what you’d really love is some water. Then hold on to it and sip it instead of that second glass of wine. You will still have a good time and when you get home that night, you will feel good about having taken control of your weight.
