Making History – Creative Coolness – Veronica Owens

March 18, 2014 By Elaine Gray

As I have stated in a previous blog post, I believe all of us have creativity in our souls and when some of us get full we start creating something.    Veronica Owens is one of those persons.    We met and bonded a few years ago through a mutual friend and my co-worker, Heidi Clark (another creative cool woman).   Now, we are early-Saturday-morning-falling-off-the-bike-riding-by-the lake sisters.    Veronica has an eye for photography and some of the pictures she has shared with us as she studies the craft are amazing.    She is a perfectionist with her work, which is probably the best quality in a photographer, and she is always practicing.   Recently, she had a “girlfriend gathering” and had us working out to YouTube videos before dinner and posing for pictures in her studio after dessert!     Here are her words about her creative soul:

Please describe your creative art form.

My creative form of art is photography

How/when did you decide to embrace your artistic gift?

Photography has been a passion of mine for many years.  I have always had a love for taking pictures.  Several years ago I became more interested in pursuing my hobby of photographing people, places and things.

What are some of the positive, unexpected experiences you have encountered as a result of pursuing your artistic life?

A positive experience for me has been receiving comments from friends saying I have an eye for photographing people and things.  I have an inner peace when photographing and a true joy of satisfaction in seeing the delight from people that are very happy and sometimes over the moon with their photographs.

What is your favorite thing about your artistic life?

The freedom to capture a moment, place or person from my view point/perspective is one of my favorites.

Veronica assures us that one day she will take her work to the professional level.  I think she is ready today and I am not alone in that belief.   However, as a fellow artist, I know that letting go of your fears and putting your work out into the world can be a little scary.  But, my message to Veronica is that you have nothing to fear.   Go for it!

Here are some of her “practice” pictures:

NaBloPoMo #3– The Place Where I Create…..My Writing Space

November 5, 2013 By Elaine Gray

NaBloPoMo November 2013Women Having Coffee
I have a nice large writing space in my home.   It is actually a home office that is open and bright.  The walls of my office are a beige color and I have dark mahogany wood blinds on the window to block the evening sunset.   The floor is mahogany hardwood with a large blue multi-colored Persian rug.   On one wall is a large white built-in bookcase and it is home to hard copies of my favorite books and some of my writing books that pre-date Kindle.   Also, on my bookcase is a television with cable/DVR hookup (which I really need to remove) and an IHOME to dock my IPOD to listen to Native American flute music or smooth jazz while I am writing.

In one corner of the office, I have a medium-sized computer stand with a desktop computer/printer setup and pullout keyboard.   This computer is used for all of my non-writing life needs.   My office desk is glass-topped on a wrought-iron base with a wrought iron/leather chair.   I love this desk and purchased it before I started on my writer’s journey but now I realize it is no longer functional.  I desperately need storage and my beautiful desk does not have drawers.    Also, the desk is too high ergonomically for me to use my designated writing laptop so I have to use it on a plastic tablemate stand which I keep near my desk.    I know at some point I will need to replace this desk as the only purpose it serves now is to hold all of my notebooks and writing class notes.

Overall, I am content with my writing space but it is in need of some mission organization and a makeover.   Sometimes when I take a short break from my writing sessions I jot down ideas so I do have the start of plans for a makeover.   However, at the moment, I am productive in my writing space and working to a self-imposed deadline to finish my novel.    Perhaps when that is done I will take a break and enhance my writing space.

I would love to share a picture of my writing space but today it is just a little too cluttered to show.
